This site uses few cookies and today they are all technical ones: they are there to make it work, not to follow you around. There are no statistics tools, no profiling cookies and no advertising pixels. On your first visit you will still find a banner asking you to choose, and further down we explain why. Here is the list of what ends up in your browser and what it is for.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a site saves in your browser and reads again on later visits. Some are there only to make the pages work: remembering the language you are reading in, holding together the steps of a form, telling a person apart from an automated program. Others measure how many people pass through the site or piece together your interests for advertising purposes. On this site there are only the first kind.
The cookies on this site
The site and the booking request
- WP_SESSION_COOKIE — the booking system sets it from the very first page you open and it holds together the steps of a request: dates searched, summary, submission. It contains a random identifier and an expiry time, none of your data. It lasts thirty minutes.
- mphb_check_in_date, mphb_check_out_date, mphb_rooms_details — these appear only if you reach the booking form: they remember the dates chosen and the summary of the stay while you complete the steps. They are deleted when you close the browser. Today the request is sent from the contact form, so you will probably never receive them.
- wordpress_logged_in_…, wordpress_sec_…, wp-settings-… — session and preferences for anyone logging into the administration panel. As a visitor you never receive them.
Your choice about cookies
argentario_cookie_consent — we write it only after you have pressed a button on the banner, and it serves to remember what you chose, so that we do not ask you again on every page. It contains your answers — statistics yes or no, marketing yes or no — and nothing else: no identifier, nothing that recognises you. It lasts 180 days, then the question comes back. It is a technical cookie too: recording a refusal is the only way to respect it.
The language you chose
pll_language — the site is in Italian, English, French, German and Spanish. This cookie remembers the language you are reading in, so you do not have to select it again on every page. It contains two letters, for example en, and it lasts a year.
Cloudflare
The pages reach you through Cloudflare, which filters automated traffic and serves the content from the network node closest to you. To do this it may set technical cookies of its own: __cf_bm, which tells people apart from automated programs and lasts a few tens of minutes, and cf_clearance, which records that a security check has been passed so as not to repeat it on every page. They are there for security and for delivering the content: they do not profile you and they do not feed advertising networks. Because the traffic passes through Cloudflare, your IP address is handled by its servers.
The anti-spam check on the form
The form on the Contact page is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, an anti-spam check that happens by itself, with no images to identify. To work out whether there is a person on the other side, Turnstile loads a script from Cloudflare’s servers, reads some characteristics of the browser and may save a technical cookie; those data serve only this purpose. Without the check, the [email protected] mailbox would fill up with automated messages. It is the only external service on the site and it comes into play on that page alone. Cloudflare is a United States company: the safeguards under which data may leave the European Union are explained in the privacy policy.
What is not here
- No statistics or traffic analysis tool.
- No profiling cookies and no advertising.
- No social network buttons and no social network pixels.
- No maps and no videos embedded from other sites. The map on the Where we are page uses OpenStreetMap data, but the images and the program that draws it are on our own server: opening it you contact no other site and you receive no cookie.
- No typeface called in from Google Fonts or from other external services: the site’s two fonts are served by our own server.
- No transfer of data to advertising networks or intermediaries.

The banner, and what it is really for
For technical cookies — the ones needed to make the site work or to provide a service you asked for yourself — Italian and European law do not require prior consent: informing you is enough, and that is what this page does (art. 122 of legislative decree 196/2003 and the Italian data protection authority’s cookie guidelines of 10 June 2021). Today the site has only those: the banner, therefore, is not asking your permission for something we are already doing.
It is there for two things. The first is to give you control in advance: if one day we add a statistics tool, that will not start unless you have consented to it, and your answer is already on record. The second is that a refusal, in order to be respected, has to be remembered.
The banner follows the authority’s rules: no non-technical cookie before your choice, «Accept» and «Refuse» given equal prominence, scrolling the page which does not count as consent, and the possibility of deciding category by category. If you do not answer we do not decide in your place: without an answer no optional tool is activated.
You can change your mind whenever you like: at the bottom of every page there is Manage cookies, which reopens the same choices. The banner is written by us and sits on our own server: it is not an external service and it sends your data to no one.
How to delete or block cookies
You can delete the cookies already saved and stop others from being saved from your browser settings, without going through us. The names of the items change from version to version, but the path is more or less this one.
- Chrome — Settings, then Privacy and security, then Cookies and other site data.
- Firefox — Settings, then Privacy & Security, under Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari — Settings, then Privacy, then Manage Website Data.
- Edge — Settings, then Cookies and site permissions.
On phones and tablets the items are in the same browser settings. You can also browse in a private window: the cookies are deleted when you close it. Bear in mind that if you block them all the form’s anti-spam check may not work and your request may not reach us.
If something changes in the future
If we add a statistics tool, a map embedded from another site, a video hosted elsewhere or a social network pixel, those cookies will no longer be merely technical. The mechanism for handling them is already in place: those tools will stay switched off until you have accepted them from the banner, and this page will be updated with their name and their duration.
